The difference between shipping and freight!

A The process of international shipping we could best imagine its process as the vascular system that surrounds our body, where the various means of transport deliver the vital things to the organs. Today, without its form, it would be an indispensable element of our globalized world. Shipping can be considered a branch of logistics. Its purpose is to organize the transport of goods in a way that is profitable in terms of time, costs and the safety of the transport. During transport, the goods do not change their location, we can only talk about its planning.

The concept and development of shipping

The development of transportation can be traced back to ancient times. After all, it was then that the attitude developed in merchant circles, on the basis of which merchants tried to sell their goods in other settlements as well. They sent consignments on their own responsibility and at their own expense, which were sold in the markets by merchant assistants entrusted to them. In the course of exercising this activity, the logistical background for sending parcels was formed. So shipping to be exact. Over time, as the movement of goods became an increasingly complex task for traders, this task was outsourced. Shipping and haulage companies have appeared.

Thanks to the invention of the railway and the steam engine, the possibilities became precisely endless. Finished products or raw materials intended for sale could reach any part of the world, and even faster than ever before. Thanks to this, the globalized world in which we still live today, and which is characterized by transportation and it would practically not be able to function without today's forms of goods transportation.

What is the difference between shipping and freight?

A lot of companies operate by simultaneously providing forwarding and carrier tasks. Therefore, viewed from the outside, it is not so interesting if the two activities can merge despite their clear differences. The biggest difference between the two activities is in the movement of goods. After all, the company or company that deals with transportation will not physically move goods.

Shipping is a mental activity. The freight forwarder organizes the transport with his language, logistics, freight law, geographical and organizational skills and represents the interests of the customer. And it does this in such a way that the given transport is as efficient as possible in terms of time and costs.

In contrast, the carrier operates by physically moving the goods. This is the process during which the product gets from A to B, that is, from the customer to the recipient. The task of carrier can be performed by the principal or the consignee. However, due to its considerable cost, risk and logistical challenges, this task is most often outsourced.
